President’s Message (December 2014)

As my tenure comes to a close, I would like to take the opportunity to let everyone know that I have been honored and humbled to serve as your President.

I have enjoyed the opportunity to serve the NAPCO Membership, and I know that I couldn’t have been able to handle the challenges without the support of the entire Board of Directors. A special “thank you” to our Board of Directors and our members; we are one of the strongest and most active APCO Chapters in the Country because of their dedication and hard work. A heartfelt “thank you” also goes to all the vendors that tirelessly support NAPCO, from monthly meetings to our annual conference each year. As a non-profit organization that strives to give back to the membership and the community, we simply could not function without our valued vendors.

As I reflect on the accomplishments of last year, the progress we’ve made, and our contribution to the overall mission of APCO International, I cannot help but think of the entire Board of Directors. They are one of the hardest working groups of people I have ever known and it was a pleasure to serve with such a dedicated and motivated group. With their help we were able to make significant progress this year to prepare for the 2015 APCO Western States Regional Conference (WRC). This included promoting the conference at the WRC in Phoenix and the National APCO conference in New Orleans. The WRC has been one of our top priorities, and I am also grateful for the contribution of the Western Regional Committee to make this upcoming event a success.

Additionally I am happy to report that we have increased our membership to over 530 members; this is the highest number for NAPCO since its inception! Another significant accomplishment is providing the certified Communications Unit Leader (COML) training in Sacramento at the Emergency Medical Services Authority office.

The WRC will be held at the Sacramento Convention Center April 8 – 10, 2015. The Board of Directors will be still seeking interested parties to serve on the various committees. NAPCO is a membership driven organization with a mission to serve and assist individuals in the Public Safety Community and your participation and contribution to these committees will be greatly appreciated. During this year, my employer, the California Highway Patrol, has provided me with the flexibility and time I needed to serve as your President. This was possible because the CHP values the mission of such a prestigious and influential organization as APCO.

I would like to congratulate Mr. Scott Andrews with the City of Sacramento for the Presidency position. Ms. Brenda Bruner with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office was elected at the tabletop in Concord to be the Vice President. Ms. Jackie Pace with the Redwood City Police Department and Mr. Karl Grover with the Roseville Police Department will both serve as Directors.

Wishing you the best and Happy Holidays to all of you!
