What Happens When a Gas Line is Ruptured?

What does the response look like when a natural gas line is ruptured in a neighborhood? Well, the California Regional Common Ground Alliance is hosting a free (with registration) event on June 10, 2016. This will be a mock gas line strike and emergency response event with Senator Jerry Hill as the keynote speaker.

The event will take place at The Academy, South Bay Regional Public Safety Training @ Evergreen College, 4570 San Felipe Rd, San Jose, CA. The event is a full-scale live demonstration of Emergency Response to a utility gas-line rupture. The event will feature police, fire-rescue, Gas Company and AT&T emergency teams responding to a gas-line rupture and fire caused by underground construction excavations. Following the live demo, guest speakers will address the audience: State Senator Jerry Hill, Paul Evans- Safety Director of Ghilotti Construction and member of United Contractors, gas Company and USA North-811 Call Center.

After the speakers, there will be free BBQ lunch served up by award-winning pros and an expo featuring excavation & utility industry promotional and informational booths. The Event is brought together by California Regional Common Ground Alliance (CARCGA), an industrial collective committed to damage prevention and public safety and hosted by the Public Safety Training Consortium. The goals for the event are to create awareness of the severe consequences of gas-line strikes, and to encourage active participation in policy setting and legislation by all excavation industry stakeholders through the open communication and education provided by CARCGA. Participants and guests include: Cal Public Utilities Commission, Plains All American Pipelines, AT&T, United Contractors, UtiliQuest, State Contractors Licensing Board, State Fire Marshall, San Jose Fire, San Jose P.D., Ghillotti Construction, West Valley Construction, Irish Construction… and many more.

The California Regional Common Ground Alliance (CARCGA) is a regional partner of the Common Ground Alliance (CGA), a member-driven association dedicated to ensuring public safety, environmental protection, and integrity of underground services since 2004.
