Emergency Responder Communications Training and Roundtable Discussion


The number of in-building emergency responder communication systems being installed within new and existing buildings is increasing. These systems are complex and can negatively impact existing public safety radio systems if not installed and maintained correctly. This training and roundtable discussion will bring together stakeholders from public safety agencies, radio system operators and industry leaders to discuss current trends and standards related to these systems.

Parking: The UC Davis Health campus has several large construction projects underway, and parking is limited. The attached map shows where visitor parking is available for a fee; carpooling is highly recommended.

  1. Basic overview of radio system equipment and technology.
  2. The radio system license holder; what is their role and responsibility?
  3. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), roles and responsibilities.
  4. The fire code official (AHJ) perspective on emergency responder communications system installation.
  5. Current requirements contained within the California Fire Code and NFPA standards.
  6. Are there systems being installed that are unnecessary and interfering with public safety radio systems?
  7. Regional coordination on standards and the plan review process.
  8. What are the necessary qualifications to review and inspect these complex systems.
  9. Roundtable discussion.
