Changes to 9-1-1 Language Interpretation Services

In case you didn’t get the letter from the State 9-1-1 Office, there are some actions all PSAPs need to take regarding Language Interpretation Services. The current State Contract with CanTalk expires on June 30, 2013. You need to transition to the new contractor – Language Line Solutions (LLS). And if you are a current customer of LLS, you need to change the phone number you are using.

LLS will be contacting all PSAPs with contracts already, advising effective August 1, 2013 the LLS rate would be reduced from $1.25 to $0.59 for the remaining term of the PSAP’s active PO. The e-mail would serve as LLS’ amendment to revise the existing rate in the PSAP’s PO; no additional action is required by PSAPs.

A significant change that will require immediate action by PSAPs who transition to the new State Contract is the requirement for interpreter services to be handled by a live customer service representative. This change will require PSAPs to delete the LLS 800 number 800-523-1786, that is answered by an automated attendant, and reprogram their system with the LLS 800 number 800-880-1994 that is answered by a live customer service representative. This requirement is not an option and must be followed by PSAPs who transition to the new State Contract.

Please direct all questions related to the transition to the new State Contract to Wendy Gavia , CA 9-1-1 Division Contract Manager, at Wendy.Gavia@state.ca.gov or (916) 657-9183.
