FCC Announces Deadline for Public Safety 4.9 GHz Licensees to Provide Granular Data and Obtain Licenses in New Radio Service Codes

On December 9, 2024 the FCC issued Public Notice DA 24-1137 notifying incumbent licensees in the 4.9 GHz Public Safety Band of the June 9, 2025 deadline to provide granular data on their 4.9 GHz systems and create new licenses in newly created radio service codes PB for base/mobile systems or PF for fixed point to point or point to multi-point systems. Existing PA licenses will be cancelled at the end of the relicensing process. Further, the notice informs licensees they must not modify PA licenses in an attempt to update them.

The Notice provides information (steps) on using Schedule D and H to provide granular data for new PB radio class licenses and Schedule I to provide data for PF fixed licenses. The notice provides examples of the types of licenses that need to be created from existing PA licenses.

Licensees for 4.9 GHz systems are strongly encouraged to read the short 4-page Public Notice. The Public Notice can be found at https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DA-24-1137A1.pdf or by searching for FCC DA-24-1137.
